Please read how to interpret anything the journal produces. It is informational only.

An informational card with green, amber and rose dots — never a diagnosis

Informational only

Firstchoiceplumb is an informational observe-or-call decision journal. Every output — concern bands, observation notes, urgency language and suggested questions — is provided for general information to help you decide whether to observe and log, or to contact a licensed professional.

Outputs are not a professional inspection, diagnosis, repair instruction, warranty, guarantee of severity, or code or permit guidance.

What the tool does not do

  • It does not provide repair steps, tool lists or how-to instructions.
  • It does not diagnose the cause of a problem.
  • It does not guarantee how serious or urgent something is.
  • It does not provide price estimates or informal quotes.
  • It does not interpret building codes or permit requirements.
  • It does not dispatch, book or perform any service.

Categories we always redirect

Some situations are never handled as observe-and-wait. If you indicate any of the following, the journal redirects you to a licensed professional or, where relevant, emergency services:

  • Gas or rotten-egg smell.
  • Sewage backup or sewage odor.
  • Water near electrical outlets, panels or wiring.
  • Active flooding you cannot stop.
  • Water inside ceilings or walls, or structural water damage.
  • Anything involving the water heater itself.
  • Main line, meter or whole-home supply issues.
  • Work that may involve permits, code or a remodel.

Emergencies

In an emergency — for example a strong gas smell, sewage backup, water meeting electricity, or flooding you cannot stop — move to safety and contact 911 or your local emergency services immediately. If it is safe to do so, close the nearest water shutoff. Do not wait for a concern band.

Your responsibility

Any decision you make is your own. You are responsible for following local laws, codes and permit requirements, and for engaging appropriately licensed and insured professionals. Do not rely on this tool as a substitute for professional judgment.
